A Letter Home

In the months leading up to his operational groups’s deployment, Arne Herstad wrote this letter home to Miss Andi Kindem, whom he would marry after the war. They went on to raise four children together and remained married until his passing in 1981.
Arne’s letter to Andi:
Dearest Andi
How’s everything Andi? Hope everything at your house is as nice as it’s always been.
Christmas has passed, we all celebrated very quietly with a big turkey dinner. I know you had a nice Christmas too.
Our camp has been a little better than I expected. Sometimes we have time off to go to town. We also have a radio we listen to almost continuously. So we usually have something to keep us occupied all the time.
Remember the picture I had copied from the one you gave me? I found a frame for it and now your are our one and only pin up girl. Mine especially. It’s a pencil drawing 8×12 and it looks swell. I wish you could see it.
Sure has been a long time since I heard from you. I understand that our mail has been held up and we may have to wait for some time yet.
Can’t go much farther Andi, so until next time I’ll be thinking of you and looking forward to hearing from you.
Always, Arne
