Col. Bernardi was my math instructor for 4 years at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, CA in the early 1960’s. He was an impressive man and he was able to talk me into the Army when my Father wanted me to follow his footsteps in the Navy. What a great man he was. I am sorry to hear of his passing, but that was not unexpected at his age.
He taught me algebra 1 in 1955-56. He ran the class the way an Army officer would. I grew up in an Army household, so this was no problem with me. But I learned not to get to school late. Algebra was first period. Late-comers had to stand in the back of the room, not leaning against anything. I was late only once.
